So where does the name Element 7 Wellness come from? We've heard some interesting guesses. The name came organically as a group of us were discussing what our vision is for a healing center. We wrote down all the elements of wellness that we could think of and came up with 7. Element 7 Wellness was born that day, although our collective dream of an integrated wellness center started long before.
Our goal is to provide a safe, grounded and healing environment for patients to share their story. We acknowledge that every patient will encounter hardship in every element somewhere along their journey.
There are many different types of practitioners needed from each of the elements to act as our teachers, mentors and guides. Element 7 Wellness promotes wellness and acknowledgement of all the elements, but ultimately is primarily focused on physical and mental elements. In time, our goal is to create a healing center where all the elements can be addressed by a collaborative group of providers in the same location. Currently, we honor and recognize other practitioners and resources available to address each individual element below.
Physical wellness focuses primarily on maintaining and/or optimizing of the systems of the body (functional medicine), as well as prevention of illness, and treatment of current symptoms or conditions.
AcupunctureTraditional Chinese Medicine (TCM):
TCM is the general term for the style of acupuncture which most acupuncturists are trained in, at least initially, and the style which most people practice. As this is the most foundational grouping there is a broad range of techniques used and treatment protocols. Most recent clinical studies regarding acupuncture usually use treatment techniques and/or protocols based on TCM Theory.

Tim Hodges, JSCC, LMP's answer to "What is Strain Counterstrain?"
Counterstrain is an indirect manipulation of the body that is designed to identify, arrest and shut down a chronic protective reflex arc through passive positioning of the offended structure. The treatment process accesses an autonomic based protective reflex mechanism by placing the tissue that experienced the original threat into a shortened and therefore more relaxed state. When the position is ideal, the reflex that has been creating the protective spasm (and significant pain I might add) literally shuts off. In most cases with a skilled counterstrainer, and especially when working with the Fascial techniques, this shut off is quite abrupt and nearly instantaneous.
To be more accurate, counterstrain is really based in Fascial proprioception. That is, the deep connective tissue of the various vital systems, which I will unfortunately list.
Neural fascia (epineurium, perineurium) of the peripheral and autonomic systems, visceral fascia (peritoneum, pleura, visceral ligaments), arterial and venous fascia (tunica externa or the adventitia), dura of the central nervous system (meninges), lymphatic vessels (lymphangions), and the ligament/tendon system of the musculoskeletal system (periosteum covering of the bones and joints).
These systems are all covered by a continuous blanket of fascia which has been recently identified as being both contractile (myofibroblasts) and functional as a giant sensory organ.
It is the various mechano-receptors (motion sensors) and nociceptors (pain nerves) scattered throughout this Fascial matrix that generate the protective spasm mentioned above. This being a spasm of both the vital structure and any somatic (muscle) tissue nearby that is capable of assisting in the protective measures necessary to maintain tissue integrity.
This means that if this protective reflex arc is activated it can and frequently does hi-jack your muscular system away from your conscious control and will only relinquish that control when it no longer senses a threat. Unfortunately the protective reflex generated by fascia does not contain a timer. It locks the injures site down for complete healing and then maintains its dysfunctional state even after tissue healing is complete.
That is where counterstrain comes in. We can identify and turn off of these areas of spasm by identifying tender points (>2,000) throughout the body.

Emotional Emotional wellness affects our openness, our willingness to try new things, how we interact with our family, friends, and others. Emotional freedom and expression are important for the full expression of who we are. Whether untangling the awkward hard-wired emotions from our past or learned behaviours as an adult, emotional dysfunction is often at least a component of most healing.
Emotional Freedom Technique
EFT is a powerful self-help method based on research showing that emotional trauma contributes greatly to disease. Clinical trials have shown that EFT is able to rapidly reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. Once the distress is reduced or removed, the body can often rebalance itself, and accelerate healing.

Spiritual wellness is finding meaning in life events, demonstrating individual purpose and having the ability to be compassionate towards others.
Spirituality is unique to each individual. Your “spirit” usually refers to the deepest part of you, the part that lets you make meaning of your world. Your spirit provides you with the revealing sense of who you are, why you are here and what your purpose for living is. It is that innermost part of you that allows you to gain strength and hope.
Spiritual wellness may not be something that you think much of, yet its impact on your life is unavoidable. The basis of spirituality is discovering a sense of meaningfulness in your life and coming to know that you have a purpose to fulfill.

The state of the earths environement is important to us all, animal, vegetable, or mineral, because we all live in the environment. Many contributors to modern disease are from pollution, including airborne pollution, insustrial chemicals, and commercial/agricultural/industrial pollution. The changing enviroment also causes changing nutritional requirements for further resilience and proper nutritional status.
